Beckham gets red card for dissent

Beckham gets red card for dissent

David Beckham has revealed he once got sent off by a referee as he stood on the sidelines waiting to watch Romeo play football.

The former England and Manchester United midfielder got his marching orders after protesting at a decision to send off one of the young players.

He told Jonathan Ross: "I was watching the kids play the other day, it was the game just before they were playing. And I was watching and it was still the same club, it was the younger kids of Romeo's club, and they're playing in the game and there was a penalty given. And the kids are seven-years-old and he sent the kid off. And I was like, 'Come on, he's seven-years-old, referee, you can't send him off' And he looked at me and was like, 'Yes, I can.' And I was like, 'Ok, well, you can't, he's seven-years-old'

"And he came over and gave me a red card. He told me to get out of the park. For real. The gate was only 20 yards away and I waited and went back in when my son's game was on."

The star, who now plays for LA Galaxy, said his children were "happy" in the United States and did not rule out having more children with his wife, former Spice Girl, Victoria.

He told Ross: "We might have one more or two more, you never know. We're not thinking about it yet, but if it happens, great. We're enjoying the kids as it is. It's always a thought."

Moyer adapts to UK and US life

Moyer adapts to UK and US life

Stephen Moyer has revealed he finds it easy moving between the UK and the US.

The True Blood star was born in Essex but now lives in Los Angeles with his wife Anna Paquin, and said his lifestyle changes depending on where he is.

He said: "When I'm here I tend to drink coffee all day. And when I'm in England, I don't even think of drinking coffee, I only drink tea. And if I'm making toast here I have peanut butter and jam, and I would never dream of doing that in the UK, I'd have Marmite. I skateboard everywhere here, and I just wouldn't do that in London."

But the 42-year-old admitted some of his expressions still confuse his American friends.

"I'll say, 'I'm popping out for a cheeky fag' and they'll say, 'Why is it cheeky?' Or if I say, 'You saucy moo' it's, 'What is saucy?'," said the actor.

Stephen said it was only when he decided to settle in the UK that he became hot property in the States.

"The interesting thing about it, honestly, is that I wasn't looking for it any more. I had decided I wasn't going to come to America that year for pilot season. And of course as soon as you say no, the bosses are much more interested than they usually are," he said.

:: The fourth series of True Blood starts on FX on Sunday, February 5.

Amanda Holden is expected to return to Britain's Got Talent next week.

The star, who was discharged from hospital earlier this week after her life-threatening childbirth ordeal, aims to rejoin the show a week on Saturday.

The 40-year-old has been recovering at her home in south west London with new daughter Hollie for the past few days after a three-day stint in a critical condition.

She is said to be feeling "upbeat" after giving birth eight days ago which led to her being kept in an intensive care unit.

Amanda has not been replaced for the BGT auditions she has missed, and is now due to return when the show visits Edinburgh.

A friend of the actress said: "It is fantastic how well she is recovering, and she is feeling upbeat and very happy. Amanda is overwhelmed by all the lovely messages she has received."

The TV star is understood to have had a blood transfusion due to complications with the caesarean birth, but she and husband Chris Hughes have not given any details.

Hollie weighed in at just over 6lb, and the couple have another daughter, Lexi.

Walliams overcomes BGT buzzer fear

Walliams overcomes BGT buzzer fear

David Walliams has overcome his reluctance to buzz contestants on Britain's Got Talent - and is now happy to put them out of their misery.

The new judge said he had been concerned about making them feel like rejects after his own years of auditioning.

But Walliams admits he now thinks it is a good move to save the hopeless wannabes any further embarrassment.

He told Radio 2 breakfast show host Chris Evans: "I thought the hardest thing would be pressing the buzzer because, you know, I'm an actor. I've been in an audition and I know what it's like to get rejected.

"It's tough, but actually sometimes people are rubbish and you want them to stop what they're doing. And also sometimes you want to save their embarrassment because the audience are shouting 'off'.

"So you want to press the buzzer too, so they don't humiliate themselves any more."

Walliams added that he was warned by BGT producers to steer clear of making jokes about show boss Simon Cowell. But Walliams immediately poked fun at the media mogul, who took his gags in good humour.

"Simon's laughing, the audience are laughing and it's all good. I didn't need to worry because he's got a great sense of humour and he's like the king and I'm the court jester," Walliams added.

Walliams was on the show to promote his role as a judge for the breakfast show's children's writing contest 500 Words.

Marcus: Barlow a man of his word

Marcus Collins has revealed that his X Factor mentor Gary Barlow has kept his promise to support him in his music career.

The TV talent show runner-up and the Take That star struck up a close friendship during their time working together.

And even now the cameras have stopped rolling, Marcus is in regular contact with Gary and gets constant advice from him.

"It was pretty odd the first time he came round for tea," he said. "Gary kept quizzing all my family, trying to get the gossip, but there isn't really any. Then him and my nan sat talking for hours. They could talk a glass eye to sleep, them two.

"Gary's a man of his word, though, and when he says he wants to help me with my career, he means it. You only have to look at all the charity work he's done to see that he'll go the extra mile to help people. I can learn a lot from him."

Marcus, who was previously a member of boyband Eton Road, is now looking forward to performing in front of huge crowds on The X Factor tour before his debut single and album are released in March.

"I've wanted this for so long, so I can't believe how quickly it's all gone," he said.

"When I left Eton Road, I had to have the belief to go on, regardless of how many times I heard 'No'.

"Being a singer is all I've ever wanted to do, and I wasn't going to let a few rejections stop me."

:: Marcus Collins is part of the X Factor Live Tour 2012, which begins on February 25 in Manchester.

The hit Channel 4 sitcom - dubbed the new Friends when it first hit screens in 2005 - has just filmed its 150th episode in the US. And Jason, who plays Marshall, still has a blast on set.

The Muppets star revealed: "It's really a well-oiled machine here. You just come and do it and hang out with your friends. It kind of feels like going to summer camp every day."

Funnyman Neil Patrick Harris, who plays ladies' man Barney, echoed Jason's sentiments.

The actor, who has also appeared on Glee, said he occasionally goes online after a show to see what fans have written and marvels at how much people care about the show.

"That's awesome," he went on. "When this chapter is done we'll all look back and marvel at it probably being the best job we've ever had."

Alex Kingston has told how she bashed in her front teeth after trying to save face following an earlier bump.

The TV beauty, who has played River Song in Doctor Who, began to feel dizzy after playing down a head injury and ended up falling face-first.

Alex, 48, a former star of US TV hit ER, had to be taken to hospital after the accident.

Speaking on Friday's Graham Norton Show, she said: "I was jet lagged, working with comedians, and I walked into a lamppost.

"It was a comedy moment, but I was so embarrassed because I thought I would be the butt of their jokes so I pretended I was fine and that night I started to feel really woozy and I fell flat on my face.

"I bit through my lower lip and knocked out my front teeth. It was really awful. I was doubly concussed and had to go straight to ER," she told Graham during the BBC1 show.

Alex, soon to be seen in Upstairs Downstairs, said she may well reprise her role as Dr Song in the Time Lord drama.

"You may see her again. Let's just say, Upstairs Downstairs and Doctor Who don't film at the same time."

The Graham Norton Show is screened on Friday at 10.35pm.

Rovers return for Terry Duckworth

Rovers return for Terry Duckworth

Coronation Street bad boy Terry Duckworth is coming back to Weatherfield.

Terry, played by Nigel Pivaro, will return to the long-running show in spring for around a month.

Viewers will see him reunited with his son Tommy, played by Chris Fountain, in his first appearance in the soap since the day of his mother Vera's funeral in January 2008.

Pivaro said he could not "refuse" the offer to return, but said it would be "a little sad" being there without Liz Dawn and Bill Tarmey, who played his screen parents, Jack and Vera.

He said: "Part of the excitement is that the show has changed so much with so many different characters and set ups it will present Terry with a completely different landscape to that which he knew before.

"I am going to enjoy playing Terry rediscovering his roots, the changes that have taken place and his reaction to them.

"It will be strange and a little sad without my old sparring partners, Bill and Liz with whom I had forged such a strong working and personal relationship, but I relish creating an interesting new rapport with Chris who plays Terry's son Tommy."

Chris Fountain spoke about Terry's return on Loose Women: "We know he's coming back and he's going to cause trouble. But I'm looking forward to it because it opens up a whole different side of Tommy that no one's ever seen before."

Millions of viewers tuned in during 1993 to see Pivaro's character take Tommy away from Jack and Vera and sell him to his other grandparents.

Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson said: "I'm very excited to be welcoming arch villain Terry Duckworth back. This time though he'll not only be blighting the life of his son Tommy but the lives of every resident with a typically audacious scheme."

Impresario Andrew Lloyd Webber will lead the hunt for someone to fill the role in his new ITV show, after four series at the BBC.

Auditions will take place in London, Dublin, Belfast, Manchester, Glasgow and Cardiff, with the most promising new talent performing on stage in front of Lloyd Webber and a panel of judges.

The winner will have a lead role in an arena tour of the rock opera, which will open at London's O2 Arena.

A source close to Lloyd Webber said plans to cast a woman in the role first performed by Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan were "being discussed".

The part has been played by singers including Paul Nicholas, John Farnham and Sebastian Bach and has been played by a woman before - US rapper Peaches did a one-woman version of the show in 2010.

Dean back 'home' in Albert Square

Dean back 'home' in Albert Square

Original EastEnder Sharon Watts is to make a return to Albert Square after an absence of six years.

Actress Letitia Dean, 44, will head back to Walford later this year - her third major stint on the series. Details of the circumstances of her return are being kept under wraps.

The last time viewers saw her was in early 2006 after she had been left a widow following the death of husband Dennis Rickman.

Letitia said: "I am really looking forward to being part of the EastEnders team again, as it has always been very close to my heart. I cannot wait to work with my old colleagues and see what is in store for Sharon."

Former Queen Vic landlady Sharon has been one of the show's key characters and her affair with brother-in-law Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) led to one of the show's highest rating episodes. It also prompted her departure from the series in 1994.

Sharon returned in 2001, to take over at the Vic, which had formerly been run by her adoptive parents, Angie and Den Watts.

She stayed until 2004 and then returned again the following year, only to bow out once more in January 2006, following the stabbing of Dennis who died in her arms.

Letitia went on to compete in BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing in 2007, as well as tour in the stage production of Calendar Girls.

Executive producer Bryan Kirkwood said: "I'm thrilled that Letitia is coming back home to Albert Square where she belongs.

"Sharon is a real favourite amongst EastEnders' fans and I for one can't wait until she arrives back in the summer."
