Lacey Turner

Since packing in her role as EastEnders’ Stacey Slater two years ago, Lacey Turner, 24, has appeared in Being Human and Frankenstein’s Wedding, so she’s no stranger to spooky shows. But in ITV2’s Switch, she plays a witch — and helps put the ‘bubbles’ into the ‘toil and trouble!’ Lacey took a break from filming to tell TV Choice more…

SwitchYour character is one of the ‘Camden Witches’ (played by Lacey, Phoebe Fox, Hannah Tointon and Nina Toussaint-White) who live together in London’s Camden Town. Tell us about her…
I’m Stella, the sort of mother hen of the group. She’s quite organised, and even a bit anal. She sort of keeps the group together, pays the rent — she’s the only one of them with a stable job. She’s quite career-driven, but she’s got an evil boss [Amanda Drew], the sort that throws files and talks to you while she’s walking away from you. Stella’s constantly trying to please her but nothing she does is ever enough.

Do the girls enjoy being witches?
Well, the spells don’t always work as the girls would like — they go a bit wrong sometimes! But they are just normal girls who happen to be witches. The show really is about four friends who would do anything for each other.

Lacey Turner in SwitchWhat was the relationship like between you four girls who play the Camden Witches?
We literally clicked instantly, and it was so much fun. I was really sad when filming finished. I already knew Hannah a bit — we did Whistle Down The Wind in the West End together when we were 11, and Nina and Hannah’s older sister Kara was in EastEnders. We would always see each other when we were out and about. We’d always be so tired after a day filming Switch, but we had flats in the same complex, so we’d always try to grab a bit of dinner together

What would you do if you had their special powers?
Make two of me, I think. And then I could do what I wanted, while the other one of me could go to work!
