Fearne Cotton
Radio 1's Hackney Weekend
She’s something of a veteran on the music festival circuit, having attended and presented her fair share of gigs. Alongside Greg James and Gemma Cairney, Fearne Cotton will be bringing us coverage of the Radio 1 Hackney Weekend. Based in the famous BBC3 Tree House studio, Fearne will be watching some of the biggest names in music take to the stage, just a mile or two from the Olympic Stadium, and she’ll be grabbing a few words with them too. With Jay Z headlining on Saturday night, and Rihanna on Sunday, the two-day festival will most definitely have the country dancing…
If there was ever a perfect job for Fearne Cotton, this would be it. As a self-confessed music fan, she’s sitting pretty with her weekday show on Radio 1, as well as the station’s Live Lounge sessions. And now she’s presenting at one of the biggest gigs on Radio 1’s festival calendar, with coverage being shown on BBC3.
Aside from the two headliners, the two-day festival also boasts an impressive line-up including Kasabian, Leona Lewis, Rizzle Kicks, Will.i.am, Swedish House Mafia, Example, deadmau5, Sean Paul, Dappy, Calvin Harris, Eric Prydz, Jack White, Ed Sheeran, Flo Rida, Trey Songz, Tinchy Stryder, Lostprophets, Nero, Michael Kiwanuka, Emile Sandé, Plan B, Lana Del Rey, Florence + The Machine, David Guetta, Tinie Tempah, Jessie J, Chase & Status, Professor Green, Wretch 32, Nas, Bombay Bicycle Club, Taio Cruz and Ben Howard.
Although the 30-year-old is working, if she wasn’t being paid to be there, you know that she wouldn’t look out of place among the crowd in shorts and a vest top. And when she’s not working, that’s exactly how she likes to spend her time.
‘I went to a few European festivals just to watch and hang out last summer,’ says Fearne. ‘Rock Werchter in Belgium was very fun and also Rock am Ring in Germany where I watched The Gossip and 30 Seconds to Mars. It's always great to go to at least one festival a year where I'm not working, if I can.’
Fearne says that there are quite a few bands she’d happily pay to see.
‘There’s Alt-j who I still have not seen . I love their album so they're on the list. Also Ben Howard, who I've seen a few times now. He is fantastic live. Also, if Led Zeppelin ever get back together again I would pay so much to see them! I went to their O2 show and it was the best night of my life!’ she says.
With so much going on in her life, it’s a wonder that Fearne, who also appears on Celebrity Juice alongside her best friend, Holly Willoughby, has any time left for other projects. But her calendar is certainly full.
‘I have a new series of Fearne And.... that I'm working on for ITV2. Plus a new very.co.uk collection and my Boots make-up line. I also have a few other TV projects I'm working on.’
