Gavin Blyth Memorial Ball

13 January 2012

Emmerdale and Coronation Street stars will be out in force next month for a charity ball in memory of TV producer Gavin Blyth.

Gavin was series producer for Emmerdale when he died aged 41 in November 2010 from cancer, and the event in Manchester on Saturday, 18 February also marks the official launch of Once Upon A Smile, a charity partly set up in his memory.

The champagne and red carpet reception at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate hotel will also be attended by stars from EastEnders and Hollyoaks, as well as other celebrities. This is the second annual Gavin Blyth Memorial Ball, with last year’s event raising £65,000 although organisers hope to take £75,000 this year.

Emmerdale actor Danny Miller, who plays troubled Aaron Livesey, is behind the event, and he also co-founded Once Upon A Smile last year with fellow actor Daniel Jillings.

‘Gavin Blyth was an inspirational and passionate producer. But not only that, he was a fantastic man, father, mentor, and friend who was like a brother to me and so many others,’ says Danny Miller

‘Despite a year passing, there is still a giant hole left at Emmerdale, so we want to remember Gavin in a fitting way to celebrate his life, and raising money for our new charity Once Upon A Smile.’

Manchester-based Once Upon A Smile provides respite breaks and support for families who have lost a loved one to long-term or terminal illness.

Following a champagne and red carpet reception, Danny Miller's dad Vince Miller will compere the gala evening, and guests will be entertained by performances from cast members, and surprise guests. A three-course meal will be served, and there will also be an auction of ‘money can’t buy items’, and a disco.

A few tables are still available. Organsiers would also like to hear from anyone who has prizes to donate for the auction or raffle. Call 0161 358 0344, or email: [email protected]
