The most successful new drama series on BBC1 since 2001, viewers fell in love with Call the Midwife, the story of nurses in the East End of the 1950s, based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth. The series starred Jessica Raine, Miranda Hart, Jenny Agutter, Pam Ferris, Judy Parfitt and Cliff Parisi. It beat the much-lauded Homeland to win, and fans can look forward to a Christmas Special and a second series in 2013.
'We’re completely thrilled. It’s such an honour, because the people vote for it. We know how popular Call The Midwife has been but it’s a real honour to be nominated,' says Jessica Raine.
'We had no idea, when we were filming, who would watch it. It’s really, really high quality TV and I’m so proud of it.'
