Having waved goodbye to the TARDIS, David Tennant had been keen to move on, and his win tonight – over current Timelord Matt Smith, Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch and Merlin’s Colin Morgan, shows that fans still love the Scottish star. Single Father, about a man struggling to care for his kids following his wife’s tragic death, teamed him with former Corrie favourite Suranne Jones.
‘I’m really pleased it won, because Single Father wasn’t one of the big, show-off pieces. We were on opposite Downton Abbey, so we were never going to be celebrated in terms of millions of viewers. I’m biased, but I think it was rightly appreciated because it was a quality piece of writing,’ says David Tennant.
